With the recent inauguration of Joe Biden as the president of the United States of America, the relationship between the United States and Mexico has been called into question moving forward. According to many close to both figures, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and former president Donald Trump had a very “close relationship.” Whether Biden and Lopez Obrador could have a similar relationship is the question that’s currently cropping up, due to the many differences, both personal and political, between Trump and Biden. Let’s see what ASF students had to say about the situation and how they believe it will play out. The opinions of students were mixed. Some thought that such a relationship was attainable, while others thought it wasn’t going to happen, though no outpaced yes by a few answers. When asked to delve in, many believed that even though a close and personal relationship would not be fostered between Biden and AMLO, strong relations would benefit both countries.

On the topic of relations and policy, respondents were asked what both countries should be focusing on. As is to be expected, the majority of the responses stated that what was most important was attempting to control the COVID pandemic. The sentiment is that first the USA and Mexico need to get COVID under wraps before important issues such as immigration, trade, or other issues can be addressed.

Clearly, ASF is an ideologically diverse school with many different ways of thought and ideas on how the world works.
